The American Friends Service Committee is an organization founded on Quaker principles that carries out service, development, social justice, and peace programs throughout the world.
The Great Lakes Regional Office is currently working on several projects including:
· The Middle East Program works to create awareness and support for social change initiatives for a just settlement of the Arab-Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
· The Peacebuilding Program works locally, statewide, and nationally to highlight the human and economic cost of war through exhibits, actions, and events.
· The Truth in Recruitment Program seeks to expose the harsh realities of military service and refute false information provided by military recruiters and military advertisements.
· The Chicago AFSC Taxi Worker Organizing Project seeks a more cohesive voice for immigrant taxi drivers over their own working conditions through mutual support, collective action and a formal association of drivers.
