The Women's International League for Peace & Freedom presents the following workshop on Corporate Power Abuse:
"Meltdown: Connecting the Pieces:" The opportune moment to show corporate power as the engine behind systemic disfunction of democracy and economic and environmental collapse.
Location:
Augustana Lutheran Church
5500 S. Woodlawn Ave. (SW corner of 55th and Woodlawn).
Whatever your issue, whatever abuse you protest or cause you champion, this presentation will show you how it is undergirded, supported and promoted by unchecked, unregulated corporate power. Effective corporate regulations never did exist, but were simply a device used to mask power grabs by the wealthiest in our society. Women's International League for Peace & Freedom (WILPF) has excelled at educating the public about the threat to democracy that corporate power exercises... and how ordinary people can unite to assert the peoples' rights and take back 'the Commons' and their democracy.
Des Moines WILPF member and WILPF National Corporporate Issues Committee member Marybeth Gardam will address how this issue connects to so many others... and how we can use it as an effective gateway organizing issue that crosses barriers and affects us all.
