Pax Christi Springfield originated in the mid-1980's. With the 1987 Springfield Diocesan Project: Year of Peace, member involvement was diverted from the local Pax Christi into this educational effort. Eight hundred Catholics across the diocese participated in a course on the U.S. Bishops' Challenge of Peace: God's Promise and Our Response.
Pax Christi senses a great lack of understanding on the part of many Catholics about Christ's challenge to be nonviolent peacemakers. Springfield's goal is to prayerfully support and encourage the workings for peace by Catholics in light of the words of the Jesus, the Holy Father, and Church teachings.
